Do Ústavu tuberkulózy a respiračných chorôb nastúpila v roku 1973 ako začínajúca sestra. Na detskom pľúcnom oddelení (dnes Klinika detskej pneumológie a ftizeológie LF SZU a NÚDCH) pracovala až dodnes.
Počas svojej kariéry sa s veľkou láskavosťou postarala o tisícky detí. V časoch, keď rodičia nemohli byť pri hospitalizovaných pacientoch, bola pre mnohé z nich náhradnou mamou — a často im venovala aj svoj osobný čas.
Pre nás všetkých bola vždy „sestrička Marika“ — pokojná, empatická a plná optimizmu. Stala sa vzorom pre mladšie kolegyne a dôkazom toho, čo znamená skutočné poslanie v zdravotníctve.
